Bill’s law practice can best be described as a general business practice. While in the past he has done a small amount of trial work, his practice is now limited solely to transactional matters. His major client, whom he has represented for over 45 years, is a family owned nursing home chain. Previously he represented a governmental planning agency known as the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) for over 45 years. Other clients include small businesses, individuals and families. The representation of individual clients, generally involves matters dealing with wills, trusts, probate and other estate planning matters.

The areas of practice Bill has dealt with while representing business and individual clients include business formations and governance matters, including corporations, limited partnerships and limited liability companies (LLC’s); commercial real estate transactions, including purchases, sales and financing; business acquisitions, mergers and asset sales; commercial leasing matters; preparation of various types of business contracts; preparation of wills, trusts, and related documents; will probate and related matters; administration of trusts and estates; and partnership and real estate tax matters (although he no longer practices in this area). He also has served as a court appointed special master in a number of condemnation and quiet title actions.
While representing his governmental client, he dealt with governance issues, generally involving interpretation of applicable state and federal law; bylaw revision; vendor and grant contract preparation and review; trademark and copyright matters; open meetings and open records law requirements; and environmental litigation under the federal clean air and transportation laws. Besides regional transportation and land use planning, ARC’s responsibilities include planning, administration and regulation regarding air and water quality requirements, and administration or oversight of aging services and workforce development programs, in the region. Bill’s governmental practice also included legislative interpretation and issuing legal opinions in these areas.
